New Forest - Driving Golf In The Midlands To New Heights!

Tuesday 15th August, 2006

August 2006 - Renowned golf course designer, Peter McEvoy, has described the New Forest Golf Club in Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath as, "the best course I have yet designed". The club, which will open August 28th, is just 55 miles outside of Dublin off the N6, between Tyrllesspass and Kilbeggan . New Forest is one of four championship golf clubs being developed by EASSDA, with another 18-hole course at Moy Valley, Enfield due to open in September.

McEvoy, believes that you have to achieve the right balance when constructing a course. "You have to cater to professional and amateur capabilities. My philosophy is to design courses that can be enjoyable for all standards of player, because successful golf courses suit their customer needs" McEvoy said.

The New Forest development from leisure developer EASSDA offers a supreme addition to the midlands parkland golf courses as well as an exciting new hotel and residential offering.  In addition to the 18-hole golf course, 21 courtyard apartments are also being converted for private occupancy and the New Forest 4-star, 100-bedroom hotel is scheduled to open summer 2007. The par 72 championship layout course is 6,956 yards from the back tees and surrounds the 17th century estate manor house which has been carefully converted into one of the most inviting clubhouses in Ireland.  From the vaulted ceiling in the locker rooms to the magnificent panorama of the conservatory bar and the quiet elegance of its lounges and dining room, the New Forest clubhouse is quite simply unique.

With the opening of New Forest this summer, this development is poised to take its place amongst the great Irish parkland courses.  The course is laid out over gently rolling terrain and is surrounded by mature woodlands that give the property a very traditional feel. The estates natural terrain dictates the flow of the course while at the same time retaining its original features.  The quality of the course itself is superb with some of the finest putting surfaces, tees and fairways in the region.

New Forest Golf Club will be officially launched by Peter McEvoy on 26th August.   The club is currently accepting applications for membership with membership costing from 17,500.  See www.newforest.ie for further information.
